Hard-knocking Fear the Cowboy did his best running late Saturday while rallying to win Saturday’s featured Grade 3, $100,000 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
In a race billed as Destin’s tryout for next month’s Pegasus World Cup, 5-year-old Fear the Cowboy, in his 27th career start, made a wide bid through the turn and passed the pace setters for an easy win.
So, how about his own bid?
“[The Pegasus World Cup] is a tough race, but we are open to probably taking a chance, because on this track he runs well,” said trainer Efren Loza Jr.
It was the second graded stakes score for the son of Cowboy Cal, owned by Kathleen Amaya and Raffaelle Centofanti. The horse finished up 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.33 under jockey Javier Castellano.
“He’s a straightforward horse — a very pro horse,” Castellano said.
